Rainout Policy

Weather-related postponements are inevitable.  New Canaan Baseball works very closely with the New Canaan Parks Department to play baseball whenever weather permits.  In inclement weather, we will try to play unless player safety is in jeopardy and/or play will damage the fields and affect future playability.  We have a special Fields Hotline 203-594-3610  set up where you can check on field status in the event of rain. Team coaches should also have a system in place to contact parents.

Lightning Policy

The league views the presence of lightning to be a very serious threat.  The following is our policy regarding lightning:

The coaches in charge of practice or games shall immediately suspend or cancel  the activity and players and coaches shall retreat to either automobiles or a secure structure in the event of any of the following:  (a) the sound of thunder in close proximity; (b) the sight of lightning; or (c)  the sounding of any external lightning alarms .    Players should not remain on the field or in open dugouts for any reason.     Coaches are urged to monitor weather conditions and to use their best judgment regarding adverse weather.   A coach may postpone or cancel practice or a game at any time that he or she believes that it is unsafe to continue for any weather-related reason.   A practice may resume following suspension, at the discretion of the coach, if no thunder is heard or lightning is observed for a period of 30 minutes.

Early Season Weather Policy

Being in the Northeast, we often get a late start on playing outdoors.  Weather plays a part as well as the playability of the fields after the winter freeze.  Playing on grass fields too early can cause lasting damage to our fields and we ask for your patience in refraining from the use of the fields until we have been given clearance from the Parks Dept.  We will make every effort to try and secure turf play for our teams if available for early season practices.
