HEY PARENTS !

New Canaan Baseball Family:

We wanted to communicate some important changes to our equipment policy for 2018.  We are sending this well in advance of the baseball season in case you

may want to consider including these on the holiday gift list for your favorite baseball players.

Batting Helmets

We have decided to discontinue supplying batting helmets for team use.  This decision will apply to all age groups.  Most parents would prefer not sharing helmets for hygienic reasons.  In addition, it becomes burdensome on the league and coaches to maintain batting helmets and bring them back and forth to the field when most players bring their own helmets.  The use of a facemask is suggested, especially at the Minor League level (kid pitch ages 8-10) but it is not mandatory.  If this presents a hardship, the league will have a limited supply of used helmets available on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 as we get closer to the Spring season.

Baseball Bats

New Canaan Baseball is a chartered baseball organization under the Babe Ruth League.  The youth division (ages 5-12) of Babe Ruth, (known as the Cal Ripken Baseball) will be adhering to the new bat standards established by USA Baseball, effective January 1, 2018.  USA baseball is the governing body for baseball in the United States.  These new standards have been developed to promote a wood-like performance standard to provide for the long-term integrity of the game.  What this means for all participants ages 5-12 is that the bat they used in 2017 will no longer be valid in 2018.  All of the major youth baseball leagues in the United States are changing to this standard.

New Canaan Baseball will no longer be supplying bats for team use.  Participants will need to purchase their own bat or borrow from a willing teammate.  Please click on the following link for more information on the new bat rules.  https://baberuthleague.org/bat-rules.aspx

One of our sponsors, Instant Replay Sports in Stamford (inside of Bobby Valentines Sports Academy) will have a wide selection of the new baseball bats to choose from.  They are very knowledgeable and will help your child get fitted with an age appropriate bat that meets the new standards.

Instant Replay Sports will be holding demonstrations on November 4th from 10 am to 2 pm at their facility at BVSA
